Altogether Better Project

PCT Team PhotoWe are a project based in the community providing support and advice on the health needs of Kendray, Worsbrough and Town Centre.  Our aim is to provide support to groups and individuals across these areas by increasing the well being of communities.  We have established over 15 groups, most of which are free (see below for details) in these areas for the community to access. 

We also provide a Health Trainer Service which is available for one-to-one support which health and well being issues.

Our new Community Trainer is working in conjunction with the project to provide training to the community and recruiting Health Educators.  Click here for more details.

We offer one to one support on issues such as:

  • taking more exercise
  • stopping smoking
  • improving your diet
  • reducing stress
  • drinking sensibly
  • get advice on sexual health

Community Development and Health Workers

Claire TingleClaire Tingle 

Graduated from Leeds University with BSc in Health and Nutrition with Psychology

  • For over a year has been working as a personal trainer running my own business, currently based at Roundwood Health Clinic
  • Has instructed exercise classes in the community including exercise to music, boxercise and cheeracise
  • Worked with Mencap providng exercise classes, guidance on healthy balanced diets, everyday lifestyle contributors and health information days including working towards providing exercise classes for people with learning disabilities
  • Set up Kingstone Cheerleading Squad, with another coach, applying for funding, attending competitions and running holiday cheer camps
  • Carried out a number of cheerleading workshops for the Council all across the Borough, working with the Youth Participation workers

Gareth RobertsGareth Roberts 

  • Graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 20089 with a BSc in Physical Education & Youth Sport
  • Worked for past year as a Youth Participation Worker in Wombwell & Darfield, involving enabling young people to influence decisions which were made in their community.
  • Worked as a Multi-Sports Coach for Sport Activ and Total Sporting Solutions, coaching sports sessions to young people of all ages
  • Worked as a Sports and Arts Leader on the Kendray & Worsbrough Partnership Summer Scheme 2005-2007

Keeley Donner

  • Worked as an Admin Officer for Her Majesty's Court Service
  • Teaching Assistant at a Secondary School
  • Deputy Manager in a shop
  • Volunteered for New Lodge and Athersley Health Trainers for nine months

Kelly Ainsworth

  • Recently graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a BSc Hons in Public Health Nutrition
  • Studied beauty therapy at Barnsley College and has worked as a beauty therapist in a salon at Barnsley
  • Has a HNC in fitness and holistic therapies through Huddersfield University
  • Worked as a volunteer for the MEND programme giving nutrition advice to overweight children and their parents

Luke Forgione

  • Recently graduated from Huddersfield University with a BSc Sport & Health Studies Degree
  • Barnsley College - Obtained BTEC National Diploma in Public Services & A Level in Sport & PE
  • Worked at Next retail part time, also did one year bricklaying apprenticeship, deciding not to follow this through and futher my education to work in a field of interest
  • Working towards FA level 1 football coaching badge, developing on community sports leader award
  • Worked voluntarily on a placement at Barnsley Football Club, fooball in the community programme and on occasion football coaching for kick start programme
  • General interest in Community Development through sport & health
  • Play football for Worsbrough Bridge FC in North East Counties League Division 1

Carl Britton

  • Graduated from Huddersfield University in 2007 with a BSc Sport & Health Studies Degree
  • Worked previously as a Health Trainer in New Lodge and Athersley and as a Project Worker for NHS Barnsley, raising awareness of cardiovascular disease across the borough
  • Plays amateur football for Crown and Anchor FC in the Barnsley and District Sunday League.
