About the Projects
We are a project based in the community providing support and advice on the health needs of Kendray, Worsbrough and Town Centre. Our aim is to provide support to groups and individuals across these areas by increasing the well being of communities. We have established over 15 groups, most of which are free (see below for details) in these areas for the community to access.
We also provide a Health Trainer Service which is available for one-to-one support which health and well being issues.

Fit Reds Match
The project was recently involved in a Fit Reds 1 and Fit Reds 2 football match at the Oakwell ground.
The game was held on the Monday 09/05/2011 @ Oakwell, 6pm Kick off. After a dramatic game in which the lead changed hands several times, Fit Reds 1 won the game 6-4.
The game was very well attended with 220+ people at the event, it also provided the opportunity to complete and offer Health checks and Lifechecks to the attendees.
Our volunteer Health Educators were also in attendance at the event and gave general health tips to people.
Bobby Hassell and Howard Webb were special guests and Bobby Hassell selected the man of the match who was Mark Heeley the Fit Reds 1 Captain. He was presented with a signed match ball.
There was a trophy and medal celebration after the match which Bobby Hassell also presented.
A great celebration of what has been a successful part of our Health Project and a model which we are continuing with Fit Reds 3.

Fit Reds
Working in partnership with Barnsley FC Football in the Community and Priory Campus BACP have provided an eight week weight management and healthy lifestyle course for men aged 35+.
Out of the 16 men, 16 (100%) lost weight;
- The total weight at the start of the project for these 16 males was 1637.5kg
- Week 4 this figure was 1595.8 kg, totalling a loss of 41.7 kg (6st 8lbs)
- The average weight loss was 4.1kg a man (9lb)
- The biggest individual weight loss was 9.6kg (1 stone 7lbs)
- 15 (94%) saw a reduction in blood pressure from the initial registration day
- In regards to waist circumference a combined total of 38 inches was lost - an average of 2.4 inches per man
- Since Fit Reds began (2 courses) 116.4 kg (18st 5lbs) and 56 inches have been lost!!!!!

Health Trainer Service for Kendray, Worsbrough & Town Centre
We offer one to one support on issues such as:
- taking more exercise
- stopping smoking
- improving your diet
- reducing stress
- drinking sensibly
- get advice on sexual health
